"It is my privilege to serve as Scoutmaster for Troop 222 and along with our Adult Council." Mr. Paul Hoffmeyer, Scoutmaster from 2012-Present
"We had many campouts and on every single one it would always rain. I remember one campout when I was tenting and it was pouring down rain. You see, there was a little shelter at the campsite and in the middle of the night, everybody moved into the shelter and slept there but they forgot to tell their scoutmaster to come too. So, the next morning, I woke up and was sleeping in four inches deep water." Mr. Kerry Mahoney, Scoutmaster from 2011-2012
“We went camping to Pantai Kerachut several times, took several 10 mile hikes including a 20 miler up and down Penang Hill, they went on a train trip to KL and we did several service projects” Mr. John Barber, Scoutmaster from 2010-2011
Note from the Webmaster: All of the information and quotes that you see on this page were researched and collected by Nathan C., the hardworking Troop Historian in charge of compiling research of the previous T.222 SMs. I would like to thank him for his hardwork and commitment. The quotes were actually given by the people themselves. Thank you former SMs for giving us your information.
Mr. David Loehden (2007-2010) Mr. David Loehden started Troop 222 in January 2007 and held the post of Scoutmaster until June 2010. He was the one that kickstarted the main program of Scouting at Dalat. We also owe a lot to him because he was the main person who bought the starter equipment that the troop would have needed to use, such as the tents and the cooking utensils.
Although most of the equipment has and will be replaced in the near future, we owe a lot to Mr. David Loehden for his contribution for building the foundation for the Troop's equipment.
During his time, Mr. John Barber was an adult leader when Mr. David Loehden was Scoutmaster. He later became Mr. Loehden's successor as the Troop 222 Scoutmaster. Unfortunately, due to lack of contact and communication, the Historian was not able to get as much information as desired regarding Mr. David Loehden. The information above was given by Mr. Kerry Mahoney.
Mr. John Barber (2010-2011) The next Scoutmaster we had was Mr. John Barber. He held one year of service as Troop 222 Scoutmaster from 2010 until 2011. He had to leave back to Michigan in 2011. He, as mentioned above, was an adult leader from 2008 to 2010 during Scoutmaster Loehden's time until he had to leave.
Nathan C., Historian, managed to get a hold of him, and Mr. John Barber described some of the things that they did, best said in his words. “We went camping to Pantai Kerachut several times, took several 10 mile hikes including a 20 miler up and down Penang Hill, they went on a train trip to KL and we did several service projects”
Mr. Kerry Mahoney (2011-2012) After Mr. John Barber was Mr. Kerry Mahoney. He served as Scoutmaster in the time period from 2011 to 2012. His son, Reagan, was actually a Boy Scout who achieved his Eagle Rank a few years ago.
Despite the lack of Scouts in the troop during this time, Mr. Mahoney played a major role is ensuring that the Troop was functioning well and that the Scouts were advancing and learning.
Mr. Mahoney mentions a few things about his experience as Scoutmaster, one in particular:
"We had many campouts and on every single one it would always rain. I remember one campout when I was tenting and it was pouring down rain. You see, there was a little shelter at the campsite and in the middle of the night, everybody moved into the shelter and slept there but they forgot to tell there scoutmaster to come too. So, the next morning, I woke up and was sleeping in four inches deep water."
Mr. Paul Hoffmeyer (2012-2018) Mr. Paul Hoffmeyer served as scout master from 2012 - 2018.. He has succeeded Mr. Kerry Mahoney and served until 2018, when he returned to the United States. The meetings are now held in the Chapel, after moving from a MS classroom, to the Student Center, and the HS Library.
Mr. Hoffmeyer has played a major role in the development of the Troop. He is extremely important because during his time, there was a major increase in boys that wanted to participate in Boy Scouts. So, under his leadership, he faciliated much change that was needed within the Troop.
He has overseen the formation of a Troop Committee. He helped in the development of the website, which you see in front of you right now. He, with the help of the Committee, has introduced new features and experiences for the Scouts, such as STEM, camping at Mt. Jerai, and lots more!
Mr. Peter Chan Mr. Peter Chan has been the acting scout master since 2018. He took over the role from Mr Paul Hoffmeyer following his return to the United States. Mr Peter Chan has been supporting our Senior Patrol Leaders during the time of COVID-19 through online means. He encouraged online meetings when in-person meetings are not allowed.
Mr. Peter Chan has and still is leading the troop through the tough time of COVID-19. He is still running the troop smoothly despite the current circumstances.
