What does BSA and FEC stand for?
BSA is an acronym that stands for the Boy Scouts of America. The entire program that Troop 222 runs on are all the features of the BSA. Because there is a number of troops scouting in Asia, the FEC, or the Far East Council, is the council that governs the different districts of troops in Asia. They report to and work under the BSA. Troop 222 is a troop that serves under the Far East Council.
My son wants to join Troop 222. How old must he be to participate?
That’s great! If your son didn’t earn his Arrow of Light Award by participating in Cub Scouts, then he has to be at least 11 years old or if they have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10 years old. If your son has been participating in Cub Scouts and has earned his Arrow of Light Award, then he is automatically eligible to join Boy Scouting. The age range is from 11 to 17 years old.
How often does Troop 222 hold meetings? Where does Troop 222 hold their meetings?
Troop 222 holds their meetings every Tuesday at 7 P.M. at the Dalat International School Chapel. The leaders in the Troop will notify the scouts if there will not be a meeting the week after. This is usually due to public holidays, special events at Dalat, or other approved reasons. Troop 222 may also hold special troop activities that may take place outside of the usual Tuesday meeting. Campouts usually occur on Fridays to Sundays.
May parents attend the troop meetings?
Yes! Parents are allowed to attend the troop meetings held every Tuesdays.
Where and how can I purchase the required handbooks, uniforms, and other program materials?
Troop 222 has a limited supply of uniforms, handbooks, and other such materials such as merit badges and other patches. Should you need to purchase a specific material, please see the Troop Treasurer Mrs. Kae Yoshino. We have sizes that your child can try on so that your child can see which size fits him and we can see which size we can order.
I’m interested in becoming an adult volunteer. How do I start?
That’s awesome! Do not hesitate to approach the Troop 222 Committee or Scoutmaster and express your interest. We may not guarantee a specific place or position, but there are a variety of ways that you can still contribute. We highly appreciate the offer to help from parents.
Can women be boy scout leaders?
Most definitely. More than one-third of Scout volunteers are women. Just express your interest to the Troop Committee or Scoutmaster and they will gladly see where you can help out.
What exactly is included in the program of Boy Scouting?
There are many elements of the program that make up Boy Scouts. Leadership, merit badges, camping, service projects, citizenship, skills, aquatics, and lots more. It is a program that allows for all kinds of experiences and new learning opportunities. Come and join the fun!
